What is it exactly?
Kawasaki disease is an acute inflammatory disease that affects children, especially those under 5 years of age. It usually requires hospitalization as it is often severe. It is linked to immune dysfunction.
The cause of this disease remains unknown to this day. The main symptom is a high fever that can persist for more than a week despite treatment, even with antibiotics.
The biggest risk is cardiac. Treatment with immunoglobulins and high doses of aspirin are necessary. The treatment may or may not be effective within the first 24 hours.
